Toxic Metals Elimination
Toxic Metals Elimination called Chelation Therapy is a treatment that uses FDA approved drugs and natural medicines to remove toxic metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium and arsenic from the body. These toxic metals can cause or contribute to many health problems. Unfortunately, they are not commonly considered or accurately diagnosed by most health professionals.
The two common FDA approved drugs used in Chelation Therapy are EDTA, and DMSA. Once the drug attaches to the toxic metals, they are safely eliminated from your body in your urine and feces. EDTA is effective only when administered intravenously in a clinic setting. It will bind with and eliminate all toxic metals except for mercury. DMSA is taken by mouth and will eliminate all toxic metals including mercury. A DMSA protocol is done at home. Both require multiple administrations to remove the body’s toxic metal burden that has accumulated in the organs and tissues of the body over the years.
Testing to determine how much of each toxic metal is in the body is an essential first step to determine the baseline and appropriate chelation therapy required. Then follow up testing must be done at regular intervals to evaluate progress and the ultimate success of the ongoing chelation therapy. The most accurate way to test is for you to take DMSA at a dose based on your body weight, and then to collect your urine for six hours and send that off to the lab for analysis. This is called a Provoked Urine Toxic Metals Test. This will provide data on how much of each toxic metal has been stored in your body over the years. Our bodies are not good at eliminating toxic metals and so they accumulate. Blood tests can be used to determine very recent exposure but are not accurate for determining accumulated burden. Hair analysis is sometimes used but does not provide real accuracy.

The guidance of a health professional with knowledge and experience is essential to accurately determine toxic metals burden, and for safe and effective chelation therapy to eliminate such toxic metal burden. Dr. Wilcox has been providing chelation therapy for his patients locally and across the U.S. and Canada since 2000.
Health insurance does not normally cover toxic metals testing or chelation therapy.
