Pelvic Floor Therapy

Pelvic Floor Therapy is focused on the rehabilitation of the tissues and structures in pelvic floor after injury, trauma or dysfunction in both men and women. It involves intravaginal or intrarectal manual techniques, as well as exercises to treat pelvic floor laxity or restrictions in the muscles, fascia, ligaments, tissues, viscera, nerves, bones, and the local interstitium. Palpation can locate trigger points of pain and guide patients to manually tighten or loosen muscles to assess function and tone. There can be low-tone or high-tone disorders. Low-tone disorders are caused by weakened or overly stretched or partially torn muscles in the pelvic floor. High-tone disorders are caused by overly strong, overactive, tight, or traumatized muscles and tissues in the pelvic floor.

Dr. Wilcox began his study of Pelvic Floor Therapy during 2017 with Lauren Rose, PT.
